Scope and ContentCommission of captain lieutenant in the second company of the Queen’s Royal Regiment granted to John Hale (1765-1838).

John Hale, whose father had served under James Wolfe (1727-1759) during the Quebec campaign of 1759, pursued a career in the British army and settled in Canada in 1799 as deputy paymaster general of the British troops stationed in Canada. Member of an upper-class family from the north of England, Hale carved out a place for himself among the British elite in Canada, acquiring both prestigious appointments and land.
