Scope and ContentLouis XV urges the governor of New France to reserve the next vacancy for a  lieutenant on the active list for Claude-Charles de Beauharnois, Chevalier de Beauharnois (1717-1784), an ensign in the colonial regular troops in Canada. After being made an ensign in the French troops in Canada, Beauharnois would go on to have a brilliant career. Previously, he had served as a midshipman in Rochefort. He worked his way up to become a captain in the colonial regular troops and served in several forts in North America before returning to France in 1750 to serve in the navy. He was awarded the cross of Saint-Louis in 1749.

Physical description: two sheets held together by a red wax seal.



General notes: the document was registered at the Bureau de contrôle de la marine de la Nouvelle-France in Quebec City on November 8, 1737; the signature is illegible.
