Scope and ContentAccording to a judgement he has not received, Mr. Couteiller has been ordered to send the Commission sums he purportedly acquired during 1812. In his view, he owes nothing as yet to the Commission, and he mentions having written to the Count of Beauharnois informing him of his situation. Claude de Beauharnois (1756-1819) was a French military officer and politician belonging to the powerful Beauharnois family, which played an important role in the navy and the North American colonies. He was made a count in 1808 and a peer of France in 1818.
