Scope and ContentLetter from Antoine Louis Rouillé (1689-1761), secretary of state for the Marine, to Claude-Charles de Beauharnois, Chevalier de Beauharnois (1717-1784), captain in the colonial regular troops in Canada and artillery lieutenant, informing him that King Louis XV is awarding him the cross of Saint-Louis and the title of knight on the recommendation of Roland-Michel Barrin, Count of La Galissonière (1693-1756), interim governor of New France. It would be the latter’s successor, the Marquis Jacques-Pierre de Taffanel de La Jonquière (1685-1752), who would bestow upon him the title of Chevalier.NotesSource of title: based on the nature of the document.
