Scope and ContentThis letter, and others like it, would have been sent to the governors and senior administrators of France’s provinces. It states the regulations to be followed by local residents and their obligations whenever the regent Philippe of Orléans’ armed forces were stationed on their territory. This particular document concerns the moving of troops toward Spain, then pitted against France in the War of the Quadruple Alliance (1718-1720).
