Scope and ContentFrançois de Lorraine, Duke of Guise (1519-1563), has learnt from a messenger from the Duke of Saxony that Count Rhingrave is expected at the Duke of Saxony’s castle on the following August 18 (1560) to welcome his wife. The Duke of Guise asks his cousin to inform him about any discussions taking place on this occasion that might be of interest to the king of France. He also tells Rhingrave that Scotland and England have signed the Treaty of Edinburgh (July 6, 1560) but that he has yet to hear details. In addition, Guise agrees with his cousin’s suggestion that Ernest, Duke of Brunswick, be made an ally, and he asks to be informed without delay of the latter’s intentions.NotesSource of title: Based on the nature of the document.
