Letter
This letter from Gatineau written by Maurice Baribeau's mother expresses her joy at learning that her son has been released, along with her impatience for his return to Canada. It conveys a mother's concerns for her son's health and her curiosity about everything he missed during the long months of imprisonment. Maurice's mother makes a point of telling him about daily life back home, along with news about various family members. This missive, which could seem trivial compared to what the soldiers at the front had experienced (it could even raise a smile, the tone adopted is so light), nonetheless offers Maurice a pleasant glimpse of the future and reminders of what he can expect when he returns.
