Scope and ContentThis 1801 letter is a request to a clergyman from an unidentified relative of Elisabeth Posthuma Gwillim (1762-1850), wife of the former lieutenant governor of Upper Canada, John Graves Simcoe (1752-1806). She will shortly be returning to the city of Bath. The service is to be held in the unfinished chapel commissioned by the letter’s addressee. The writer speaks at some length about the religious significance of the event, and makes several detailed requests concerning the content of the ceremony.
