Scope and ContentCommission of the rank of lieutenant in the 62nd Royal American Regiment of Foot granted to a gentleman named Schlosser, on December 27, 1755. After the British defeat at Monongahela (July 9, 1755) during the Seven Years’ War (1754-1763), Parliament voted to raise a new regiment. Unusually, it included a number of foreign Protestants from Switzerland and Germany among the officer ranks. Schlosser was no doubt a member of this group. The regiment would serve under the orders of John Campbell, 4th Earl of Loudoun (1705-1782), commander-in-chief of the British forces in North America. After distinguishing itself in several battles, it was renamed the 60th Regiment of Foot in February 1757, following the surrender of two regiments during the British defeat at the Battle of Fort Oswego, in August 1756.NotesSource of title: based on the nature of the document.
