Scope and ContentDocument in which Jean Talon (1626-1694), intendant of New France, grants a seigneury to Isaac Berthier, called Alexandre (1638-1708), formerly a captain in the Carignan-Salières regiment. After having fought against the Haudenosaunee (whom the Europeans called “Iroquois”), the officers and soldiers of the regiment were strongly encouraged to settle in the Canadian colony, which many did. Berthier was among those who received land and other favours.
