Scope and ContentAct issued on October 8, 1678 by Louis de Buade, Count of Frontenac and Palluau (1622-1698), governor general of New France, granting that one league of land be added to the seigneury of François Jarret de Verchères (1632-1700), formerly an ensign in the Carignan-Salières regiment. Following a judgement by the Conseil d’État, the act was registered at the office of the Conseil Souverain in Quebec City on October 25, 1680. After having fought against the Iroquois, the officers and soldiers of this regiment were strongly encouraged to settle in the Canadian colony, which many did. Verchères, who was among those who received land and other favours, founded the seigneury of Verchères.
