Scope and ContentIn this letter Étienne Macdonald asks the marshal and minister of war Gaspard de Clermont-Tonnerre, Duke of Clermont-Tonnerre (1779-1865), to consider the claims of his friend and former companion in arms Robert Dugarais, of the École royale militaire de Saint-Cyr. Étienne Macdonald, 1st Duke of Taranto (1765-1840), was a lieutenant-general during the French Revolution, marshal of the empire during the First Empire, and duke and peer of France during the Second Restoration.
