Proclamation
Produced on November 11, 1918, the date of the Armistice, this proclamation to the people of Mons announced the end to the fighting in the First World War (1914-1918), the Allied victory, and Germany’s complete defeat. Published by the Collège des Bourgmestre et Echevins de Mons (the Mons association of mayors and deputy mayors), this document underscores the heroism of the 3rd Canadian Division, which, at great sacrifice, liberated the Belgian city from "the iniquitous, pitiless and insolent occupation of the German Army." The proclamation is preserved in a wooden frame decorated with a collection of military medals and buttons.
