Scope and ContentSi le début de la guerre de Sept Ans est officiellement daté du 29 août 1756, le conflit a commencé en Amérique en 1754. Afin de préparer la population à la levée des troupes, le gouverneur du Massachusetts proclame un Public Fast. Il s’agit d’une assemblée religieuse de tradition protestante dont les membres reconnaissent que Dieu leur impose une épreuve ou une humiliation pour leurs péchés, en l'occurrence la guerre. Dans le même temps, les membres doivent discuter des moyens qu'ils prendront afin d'être repentants, c'est-à-dire faire la guerre et combattre les envahisseurs français.
