Senator Joseph Philippe Baby Casgrain wore a very liberal interpretation of the mid-18th century silhouette, at odds with the time of his French Revolutionary character. His trompe-l’oeil waistcoat has been created with strategically placed panels of cotton with floral and striped motifs. He and his daughter Elaine, dressed as “Mademoiselle Fontanges,” had a large painted version made from one of the pictures taken in the family home in Montreal.
