Biographical Sketch

Alexander Henderson (1831-1913) came to Montreal from Scotland in 1855. He was primarily a landscape photographer who travelled widely throughout the province of Quebec. In 1872 he began a three-year project to document the construction of the Intercolonial Railway, and eventually became manager of the photography department of Canadian Pacific Railway. Scope and Content

The Alexander Henderson fonds consists of photographs taken by Henderson as well as his personal records. The photographic component consists of views, landscapes, street scenes and buildings throughout Canada, especially Montreal. The textual component consists of business and personal letters.
