Scope and ContentLetter from Michel-Louis Juchereau Duchesnay (1785-1838), formerly an officer in the Voltigeurs canadiens, to Charles-Michel d’Irumberry de Salaberry (1778-1829), lieutenant-colonel of the Voltigeurs canadiens. Among the subjects touched upon in the letter, Duchesnay tells his brother-in-law Salaberry about a visit made by the latter’s father to the Château Saint-Louis, in Quebec City, and the discussions they had concerning the family. Duchesnay also mentions his plan to rent or sell the property and house called “Little River.” He has received offers, but Duchesnay tells Salaberry that he will make no deal without his approval. In 1808 Duchesnay had married Charlotte-Hermine-Louise-Catherine d’Irumberry de Salaberry (1787-1826), Charles-Michel’s sister, and purchased a piece of land at Petite-Rivière-Saint-Charles, in the fiefdom of Beauport, which belonged to the Salaberry family.NotesSource of title: based on the nature of the document.
