During their stay in Quebec City the couple became very friendly with the Irumberry de Salaberry family. The Duke of Kent did much to foster the military careers of the family’s male members.

Scope and ContentLetter from Thérèse-Bernardine, Countess of Montgenet, called Madame de Saint-Laurent (1760-1830), to Charles-Michel d’Irumberry de Salaberry (1778-1829), ensign in the 60th infantry regiment, then garrisoned in Quebec City. The countess was the mistress of Edward Augustus, Duke of Kent and Strathearn (1767-1820), an officer in the British army and the fourth son of George III. During their stay in Quebec City the couple became very friendly with the Irumberry de Salaberry family. The Duke of Kent did much to foster the military careers of the family’s male members.
