Scope and ContentThese minutes are related to court cases concerning the Corriveau de Saint-Vallier family.

Created in 1664, the provost court of Quebec was the first judicial body with the power to judge civil and criminal affairs. It was administered by a lieutenant-general, a king’s attorney and a clerk. It had jurisdiction over all civil and criminal matters in the realms of justice, police, trade and navigation, and it could hear appeals against sentences passed by bailiff’s courts or seigneurial judges.
