Scope and Content

This series covers Maurice Baribeau's career as a flight instructor and pilot for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). He was known as a skilled pilot, and the series chronicles the various levels he reached and the recognition of his peers. After the war, Maurice Baribeau decided to end his military career upon his return to Canada, though he remained a member of the RCAF Reserve. Once he had retired from the military, he, like many other Canadian former prisoners of war, applied for compensation.

The series contains official documents tracing the stages of his career, from his training as a pilot to his retirement from the RCAF. Expenditures listed in a passbook from the Bank of Montreal in London, England, illustrate how budgets and expenses were managed during wartime. Finally, this collection of documents includes the war claims made by Maurice Baribeau when he, like other Canadian soldiers, returned to Canada, and the payments he received.

The series is composed of the following subseries:

P796/A1 Pilot officer activities

P796/A2 Certification

P796/A3 Finances

P796/A4 Military retirement

P796/A5 War claims
