Scope and Content

This series focusses primarily on The Prisoner of War, a quarterly journal published by the Red Cross to support, inform and assist families with a loved one imprisoned in enemy territory. It reports on various initiatives implemented to help such families, giving them specific instructions for communicating with their loved ones or sending them packages. For families, these publications were an invaluable source of information on the procedures and regulations governing communications with prisoners.

The series is composed of journals and brochures associated with prisoner communications, as well as an official government document about the ban on sending personal packages across the Atlantic.

The series is composed of the following subseries:

P796/C,1 The Prisoner of War (and Prisonnier de guerre)

P796/C,2 Other
