A pencilled inscription in the lining of the bodice of this dress, “Mlle Béïque,” was the clue linking it to this ball. Andrée Béïque of Montreal appears to have had it copied from the well-known illustration Les Adieux by Jean-Michel Moreau le Jeune. The wired lace collar seen in her portrait has since been disassembled and the lace placed flat along the edges of the neckline.
