Scope and Content

The scrapbook focusses on Lawrence Sperber's activities as a fashion designer between 1937 and 1951, generally in Montreal and Vancouver. It contains clippings from Canadian newspapers and magazines, including The Montreal Herald, The Gazette, La Presse, The Standard and The Montreal Daily Star. The clippings are made up primarily of articles about Sperber and his creations; some were even written by Sperber himself. The texts generally discuss the main fashion trends of the time, the features of the dresses designed by Sperber, some of his public statements and events in which he was a participant; there are also various advertisements for his fashions. In addition, the scrapbook contains seven fashion photos of creations by Sperber, as well as a letter written on Sperber Brothers Limited letterhead that discusses the company's new factory and Sperber's return to work following a case of double pneumonia.
