Scrapbook
This scrapbook focusses on Lawrence Sperber's activities as a fashion designer between 1947 and 1952, in Montreal and internationally. It contains clippings from thirty or so Canadian newspapers and magazines, including The Montreal Daily Star, The Gazette, The Toronto Daily Star, Mayfair, The Standard and Châtelaine. The texts include numerous images of Sperber's creations, some illustrating events in which he was a participant, and others advertising his products. The articles generally discuss the top fashion trends of the time, features of the dresses created by Sperber, the role of Canadian fashion on the international scene and the industry's strength in Montreal. The scrapbook also contains over a dozen fashion photos and an image of Sperber's shop window in Montreal, along with a mock-up of an ad, the typescript of a Vogue magazine brochure and a label.
