Scope and ContentRené-Amable Boucher de Boucherville (1735-1812) was a former officer in the colonial regular troops serving in New France during the Seven Years’ War (1754-1763). In 1767 he inherited a quarter of the seigneury of Boucherville. He served alongside the British army when the province of Quebec was invaded by American troops during the American War of Independence (1775-1783). In 1782 he purchased his siblings’ rights of succession for a considerable sum. Three years later he was appointed overseer of highways for the district of Montreal, and between 1786 and 1798 he took advantage of this position to order a number of projects aimed at improving the road system of his seigneury. This document consists of the minutes of discussions between Boucher de Boucherville and residents opposed to new road routes.
