Scope and ContentThis letter confirms the appointment by Robert Monckton of Dr. Elihu Tudor to the position of surgeon’s mate for the 43rd Regiment of Foot, garrisoned in Quebec City. Dr. Tudor (1733-1826) had served as personal surgeon to Commander James Wolfe.  

After Wolfe’s death on September 13, 1759, Robert Monckton (1726-1782), who had been colonel of the 2nd battalion of the Royal American Regiment (60th infantry) during the siege of Quebec City in the summer of 1759, was made commander-in-chief of the British occupying forces.
