Hélène Céloron de Saint-Ours
Explorers, Discoverers and Visitors set Louisa Monk’s dress has not survived. Yet her photograph shows her wearing two heirloom miniatures, one on a ribbon around her neck, and the other pinned to her dress, that are held in the Museum’s collection! They represent Luc de la Corne Saint-Luc, c. 1778. At the time of the ball, both belonged to Louisa’s aunt by marriage. Louisa claimed that her costume was inspired by a miniature of her character, which has never been found.
