Biographical Sketch

Lavinia Stuart (fl 1870-1930), a resident of Montréal, was a granddaughter of Andrew Stuart (1785-1840), lawyer, politician, office holder and author.

Andrew Stuart was born on 25 November 1785 in Cataraqui (Kingston, Ont.). He was the fifth son of John Stuart, a Church of England clergyman, and Jane Okill. His first wife was Marguerite Dumoulin, with whom he had two sons, one of whom was also named Andrew. Andrew Sr. was married a second time, to Jane Smith, and they had three daughters and a son. Andrew Stuart died on 21 February 1840 at Québec.
