Biographical Sketch

Thomas Storrs Judah and his brother Henry Haig, both of Trois-Rivières, settled in Montreal with their families. Thomas Storrs married Clarisse Vézina in 1825, and together they had many children, one of whom was Frederick Thomas. He married Sarah Caine in 1854, and together they had seven children. Their eldest son was Ernest Woodward, a mechanical engineer and farmer. In 1880 in Montreal, he married Anna Auguste Springle, the daughter of James Key Springle and Mary Eleanor Hall. Thus the Judah and Springle families were united. Ernest Woodward Judah and Anna Auguste Springle had three children together: Ernest Lionel, Noel Fulton and Dorothy Hope. Ernest Lionel married Doris Minette Trotter in 1912, with whom he had three children. Noel Fulton married Frances Garvin in 1912, with whom he had one child. Dorothy Hope married H.F.H. Hertzberg, Royal Canadian Engineers, with whom she had three children.

Scope and Content

Most of the documents in the fonds pertain to the business activities in Montreal and the Eastern Townships of the heirs and descendants of Frederick Thomas Judah in the first quarter of the 20th century, and the business activities in Montreal of James Key Springle in the late 19th century.

The fonds is separated into two series, the Judah family and the Springle family, and each subseries concerns a specific member of the family and his/her spouse.
