Scope and ContentSous les ordres de Jeffery Amherst (1717-1797), gouverneur général lors de l'occupation militaire de la Nouvelle-France, John Montresor (1736-1799), ingénieur militaire et cartographe de l'armée britannique pendant la guerre de Sept Ans (1754-1763), écrit à James Dalrymple pour le remercier de l'avoir informé qu'il avait été désigné pour effectuer un voyage d'exploration en direction des baies de Fundy et de Casco. Montresor fera des relevés de cette région pour des cartes de l'Acadie, du fleuve Saint-Laurent et de la rivière Kennebec. Il construira plusieurs fortifications dans la région des lacs [des Grands Lacs?] et sera nommé ingénieur en chef en Amérique en 1775 lors de la guerre de l’Indépendance des États-Unis (1776-1783).
