Scope and ContentSecond part of handwritten extracts from Souvenirs du maréchal Macdonald, duc de Tarente, published in 1892. Étienne Macdonald, 1st Duke of Taranto (1765-1840), was a lieutenant-general during the French Revolution, marshal of the empire during the First Empire, and duke and peer of France during the Second Restoration. This account of his personal life and military career is dedicated to his only son. Apart from the first page, the document does not seem to have been written by Macdonald himself. Certain sections do not appear in the version printed in 1892.NotesSource of title: based on the nature of the document.
Signatures et inscriptions: arms bearing the motto “Dhan Deon Co - Theiragha” and “My hope is constant in Thee.”
Attributions and conjectures: the document was apparently dictated since the handwriting does not resemble that of Marshal Macdonald.
Associated material: A3.8,2.1.
Physical description: the document is kept in a green case.
