Biographical Sketch

Born in New Hampshire, William Grannis (1781-1833) moved to Hatley in the Eastern Townships in 1816. He married Nancy M. Dustan (b.1791) and they had six children: Sarah (b.1809), Jane (1812-1830), Harriet (b.1814), Elizabeth C.T. (b.1822), Helen W. (b.1818) and William C. (b.1826). In 1829 the Grannis family moved to Stanstead where William Grannis became one of the founders of the Stanstead Seminary. Sarah Grannis married Dr. R. Parmelee. Harriet Grannis married Sidney P. Redfield. Elizabeth married Dr. John Meigs, M.D., in 1843. Helen W. Grannis married Timothy P. Redfield and William Grannis married Lucia Baldwin.

Elizabeth married Dr. Meigs. They had Alice and Bessie. The Grannis Meigs Meekren family lived in the Northern United Sates (Vermont) and the Eastern Townships.


Scope and Content

The Grannis-Meigs-Meekren family fonds provides some information on the Grannis, Meigs and Meekren families. The fonds consists mainly of family correspondence such as letters from Dr. Parmelee to William Grannis. The fonds also contains invitations, music and dance programs, dance cards, valentines, a diploma and a Labrador map.
