NotesDress, Kainai
For the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893, Indian agent Magnus Begg of the Blackfoot agency informed Hayter Reed that he had acquired a porcupine buckskin dress from the Blood Tribe (Kainai Nation, member of the Blackfoot Confederacy), in all likelihood this very garment. Begg was pleased by the correct “pattern of the old time,” but was disappointed in the quantity of the ornamentation. He paid $10 in advance for the skins and quills, and $13.50 for the labour.
