Scope and ContentCertificate of enlistment of Charles Fitch in the Huntingdon Loyal Cavalry, Lower Canada, dated April 25, 1839, committing him to serve in this division from May 1, 1839 to May 1, 1840, in accordance with the Mutiny Act. Fitch declares that he is an 18-year-old clerk born in the state of New York. A printed section entitled “conditions for raising a corps of able-bodied men, for service in ____ Canada” outlines the terms of engagement. On the verso of the document, a handwritten declaration by his commanding officer dated May 1, 1840 states that soldier Fitch has served honorably in the company of Captain Gardner, of the Huntingdon Frontier Cavalry.

Arrest du Conseil d'Estat du Roy, Qui ordonne que l'Article XXXIV. Qui condamne des Particuliers accusés de la Sedition & Rebellion arrivée en la Ville de Tulle, Généralité de Montauban, contre les Employés de la Ferme du Tabac, les uns à faire Amende-honorable nuds en chemise, la corde au col, & chacun une Torche de cire ardente du poids de deux livres, & à être pendus & étranglés jusqu'à ce que mort s'ensuive ; ordonne que leurs corps morts seront portés aux Fourches Patibulaires pour y être exposés.
