Biographical Sketch
This fonds, titled "Artists Collection," is made
up largely of information gathered by John Russell Harper (1914-1983) during
his research on painting in Canada. John Russel Harper was chief curator of the
McCord Museum from 1964 to 1967. Over the years, other staff members of the
Museum expanded the collection by opening new files and adding new information.
The collection is now closed.
Scope and Content
The collection deals mainly with the world of painting in
North America. It is made up of four series: Artists, Associations, Galleries,
and Museums. Each series consists of subject files arranged in alphabetical
order.
The collection consists of correspondence, catalogues,
photographs, drawings, newspaper clippings and monographs.
