Scope and Content

Letter from Jane Duncan, daughter of painter James Duncan, to David Ross McCord, written in Putney, London, and dated July 20, 1906. Jane writes about her father's artistic work, the arrival and distribution of his work in England, and the loss of some of his works, including a sketchbook of nature drawings he had made at the age of eight. She also expresses her gratitude for McCord's wish to perpetuate the artist's memory in a book and speaks of the respect he had for McCord and his mother Anne Ross, both of whom had been among his drawing students. The letter also includes personal comments written and signed subsequently by David Ross McCord.

Source of title proper: Title based on the content of the document. 

Signatures and inscriptions: The letter includes comments written in ink by David Ross McCord surrounding the header on the first page and between the lines along the text on both sheets. These comments are signed "D.R.McC." on the first page of the letter. 

Dates of creation: The letter is dated July 20, 1906, but the date of David Ross McCord's comments is not known (they date from the period between 1906 and 1930). 

Physical description: The document was written in ink and consists of two sheets of paper. 

Language: The document is in English.
