Scope and ContentLarge broadside (unfolded), dated February 12, 1815, announcing the signing the previous December of a peace treaty between the United States and Great Britain that put an end to the War of 1812. Published by an American newspaper, the Herald-Office, this “scoop” appeared several days before publication of the Treaty of Ghent on February 18, since the treaty still had to be ratified by both parties, a process completed with ratification by the Senate (February 16) and the American president (February 17).
