Scope and ContentThe British army officer Archibald Campbell presents his service record with a view to obtaining the commission of colonel in the Royal Regiment of Foot, in which he is a major. Campbell was very young when he began his military career as a volunteer during the Jacobite rebellions of 1745. He served in North America throughout the Seven Years’ War (1754-1763) as a member of the 42nd Regiment of Foot. Seriously wounded at the Battle of Carillon (July 8, 1758), he remained an invalid for several months. He was present at the surrenders of both Montreal and Martinique. In 1762 he purchased a company and participated in the capture of Havana (June 6 to August 13, 1762). In 1763 he was discharged and finally recommended for the position of captain in the 10th company of the second battalion of the Royal Regiment, with which he had remained since.
