Scope and ContentPermission granted by the king, Charles I, to John Francis to transport a number of wagons to Oxford, for His Majesty’s use. The governors and commanders-in-chief who encounter his convoy are ordered to provide it with assistance and protection. The authorization, dated March 16, 1643 or 1644, is signed by Edward Nicholas (1593-1669), secretary of state to Charles I (1600-1649), king of England, Scotland and Ireland, during the period of the First English Civil War (1642-1646).
