Scope and ContentThe author of the letter, dated June 25, 1780, was likely Daniel Marc Antoine Chardon (1731-1802), attorney general of the Finance Council for seizures at sea. The letter mentions enclosed letters from Paul Esprit Marie de La Bourdonnaye, Marquis of La Bourdonnaye, Count of Blossac, Intendant of Poitou from 1750 to 1784, and from the Bishop of Poitiers. Chardon informs Louis-Nicolas de Pérusse des Cars, Marquis of Cars (1724-1795), that the Bishop of Poitiers no longer agrees with them concerning the order-in-council regarding settlement of the Acadians. In 1768 the king had entrusted Pérusse with the task of repatriating the Acadians to France. In the years following the Acadian deportations of 1755-1758, the French authorities offered the deportees a number of different options. NotesSource of title: Based on the nature of the document.
