Mary Elizabeth Chapman Bacon used this ledger to record certain household expenses. Though the ledger contains several entries dating from 1859 to 1862 when she and her husband Charles James Stewart Bacon still lived in the United States, the document focusses primarily on the period 1882 to 1884.
