Scope and ContentRequest addressed to Anne (1665-1714), Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland, by merchants and notables of the towns of Boston, Salem and Marblehead, and also of  villages in the Province of Massachusetts Bay, that she dispatch a frigate to protect the region’s fishing fleet during the War of Spanish Succession (1701-1714). The date of the document is estimated to be 1704 since it mentions the series of victories won that year by John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722).

Physical description: handwritten document.



Restoration/Conservation: the document was removed from its frame in November 2013.



Immediate source of acquisition: the document was discovered at the Stewart Museum after the building’s renovation in [201-?].
