The Encyclopédie méthodique aimed to be a revised and improved version of the Encyclopédie ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers edited by Diderot (1713-784) and d’Alembert (1717-1783). Published between 1782 and 1832, it was divided into subjects presented in 40 scientific dictionaries composed of 206 volumes, written by several hundred authors.
