An Indian Rajah
Only the headdress remains from the costume worn by Bessie’s husband, Col. Herbert Molson. Many ball-goers donned garments and accessories borrowed from the cultures that they attempted to portray, but this turban was made for the occasion. With this costume, he demonstrated whom he thought of as different from himself, effectively promoting a shared vision of exclusion.
