Born in
Ireland, Humphrey Lloyd Hime came to Canada in 1854. A partner in the
engineering firm of Armstrong, Beere and Hime, he was also an amateur
photographer. In 1858 he was selected to serve as the official photographer of
the Assiniboine and Saskatchewan expedition led by Henry Youle Hind. By the
1860s, Hime had become a stockbroker and served as president of the Toronto
Stock Exchange.
Scope and Content
The
Humphrey Lloyd Hime fonds consists of photographs he took during the
Assiniboine and Saskatchewan expedition. The pictures are of Red River
settlement buildings, Indigenous camps and graves, prairie scenery and local
inhabitants (1858).
