Biographical Sketch

Jean Bouthillier (1762-1832) was a merchant and father of Louis Tancrède (1796-1881) and Jean-François (1791-1823). Jean-Antoine (1782-1835) was their Quebec City cousin and a surveyor and office holder. Louis Tancrède married Françoise Geneviève Beaubien (daughter of Basilique Benjamin Trottier Desrivières Beaubien and niece of Clément-Charles Sabrevois de Bleury).

Pierre de Rastel de Rocheblave (1773-1840) was Louis Tancrède's brother-in-law. Pierre was a fur trader, businessman, justice of the peace, politician and office holder. Among his many activities, he acted on his brother-in-law's behalf in financial matters and promoted his career as an office holder.

Scope and Content

The de Rocheblave, Bouthillier, Routh collection provides information on members of the de Rocheblave, Bouthillier, Routh, Boucher, Beaubien, Taschereau and Sabrevois de Bleury families. The most important series of documents is probably the correspondence, which covers the economic and political activities of Pierre de Rastel Rocheblave and Louis Tancrède Bouthillier.

The collection consists of personal, professional, financial, political and community records. It has been divided into series in an attempt to organize the records along the lines of family relationships and activities.
