The juxtaposition of the Notman and Inglis composites in this personal album demonstrates the interest generated by the rivalry between the two photographers. One reviewer found that the Inglis image was more faithful to the actual unpremeditated confusion of the scene, but that Notman’s was a more perfect pictorial composition. Inglis reportedly photographed 500 guests to Notman’s 150.
